This month, there was a little bit of pressure when selecting the Book Club pick. We knew it was time for a romantasy title, and with fan favorites like A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fourth Wing hanging over our heads, the bar to deliver a five-star fantasy was definitely high. But with our resident fantasy expert (hi, Garri) on our side, I knew we were up for the task. It was just a few chapters into our April read that I knew we had found our book. An enemies-to-lovers romantasy with spectacular world-building, top-tier yearning, and a badass FMC who can see ghosts? Sign us up immediately. Not to mention, it’s written by a debut author with an incredible backstory of her own. Without further ado, the Everygirl Book Club’s April book is… Weavingshaw by Heba Al-Wasity.
Here’s what you can expect going into Weavingshaw: the kind of book that ruins your sleep schedule because, despite your 7 a.m. alarm in the back of your head, you simply can’t put it down. It’s a gothic fantasy with an eerie, immersive setting (very reminiscent of Wuthering Heights for all you Brontë girlies), fascinating social commentary on our world today, and—like all good romantasies—a brooding love interest you can’t help but fall for, even with his cold exterior. What is The Everygirl Book Club?
The Everygirl has been recommending and reviewing books for years, delivering our unfiltered opinions on what’s worth your time—from the buzzy books TikTok can’t shut up about to debut authors you have to know. After years of connecting with our readers through a shared love of books, we were craving a space where we could hear more directly from you and, instead of just telling you what we’re reading, actually read together. So, welcome to our cozy corner of the internet, where you’ll still find all the relatable, informational, and fun content you know and love from The Everygirl, but now we get to talk exclusively about our favorite things… books.
The Everygirl Book Club is a monthly book club with a reading pick (carefully vetted and chosen by yours truly), which we’ll all read together, chitchatting in our BFF Group while we binge, culminating in our monthly live book club discussion. Between meetings, you can also look forward to plenty of book recommendations and hilariously relatable bookish content (not to toot our own horn).
More than anything, The Everygirl Book Club is a community by readers, for readers. Whether your 2026 resolution is to read just one book or you need more people to send the hundreds of BookTok videos your friends are sick of you forwarding, The Everygirl Book Club is here for you. Meet Our Book Club Hosts
If you’re ever scrolling our Entertainment section or pursuing the book club Instagram, wondering who is behind all this fabulous content…hi! It’s us! As two people whose Slack messages are pretty much exclusively rants about the books we’re reading, we’re absolutely thrilled to bring that same energy to The Everygirl Book Club. You’ll definitely see our faces all over social media, and we can’t wait to connect in real time during our monthly meetings, but until then, here’s a little bit about us:
Garri Chaverst, Senior Managing Editor
Garri, fearless leader of The Everygirl editorial team, is our resident fantasy expert. If you’ve ever stalked her on Goodreads, you may notice she’s reading seven books at once. As a mood reader who won’t hesitate to DNF a book if the vibes are even slightly off, this is entirely her prerogative. She’ll start a few books until one becomes so engrossing she simply forgets the others exist. Past books that have been able to do just that include anything by Ali Hazelwood, The Unmaking of June Farrow, The Second Death of Locke, and Throne of Glass. She primarily reads on her Kindle, often while her absolutely adorable baby naps in her other arm.
Lauren Blue, Assistant Editor
Lauren’s preferred genre is sad-girl lit fic books whose haters will accuse of having absolutely no plot. Who needs a plot when you have impeccable character development, people? When she’s not reading about two characters who are hopelessly in love but have zero communication skills, she loves a moody psychological thriller with a plot twist or a dark academia fantasy. Don’t worry, though—she still absolutely eats up a romance or romantasy moment here and there. She worships the ground Sally Rooney walks on (quotation marks be damned!), has a newfound obsession with Nathan Hill books, and, like every other girl on the internet, will never miss an Emily Henry release. Her favorite books of all time are the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante, but she’s always on the quest for a new number one.
Our April Book Club Pick: Weavingshaw
This yearning, slow-burn gothic fantasy romance follows a young woman haunted by the ghosts of her past and a ruthless merchant known as the Saint of Silence, who promises her greatest desire in return for her darkest secret. . .
Whether your Goodreads recently read shelf is exclusively fantasy or you haven’t dabbled in the genre at all, Weavingshaw will hook you from the start. It strikes the perfect balance of world-building, not too intimidating for genre newcomers, but still captivating even the biggest fantasy aficionados.
It follows Leena, who has been harboring a secret since she turned 17—she can see ghosts. When her brother is on the brink of death, she knows she has to part with the valuable secret to the one person who will willingly pay: the Saint of Silence. He trades coins for every secret shared, and the darker it is, the more he will pay. But the Saint’s tricky bargaining leaves Leena giving up more than she ever expected, and now she’s made a deal to find a ghost he’s searching for. This agreement leads her to the cursed moors and the estate of Weavingshaw, where she realizes she isn’t the only one with secrets—and the Saint’s may destroy them all.
The author, Heba Al-Wasity, is an immigrant, a doctor, and now an author (talk about a multihyphenate!). After graduating from medical school as COVID exploded, Al-Wasity spent hours in high-pressure medical environments, witnessing patients on the brink of death. Writing became a way for her to process those experiences, and out of that writing, Weavingshaw was born.
Leena’s story is inspired by Al-Wasity’s own experience as an immigrant doctor during the pandemic, helping people pass on peacefully—just as Leena aims to in the book. Its themes of identity and displacement are written so honestly and authentically with Al-Wasity’s point of view as an Iraqi refugee in Libya, growing up in Canada, and attending medical school in the UK. I know you’ll be just as wowed as Garri and I were on our first read.
When is the book club meeting?
Our meetings will take place on the final Thursday of every month, where we’ll dive deep into every thought, theory, and feeling about the book—gently guided by discussion questions we’ll send out the week prior so you have plenty of time to gather your thoughts.
