Planning a Trip With a Partner Isn’t Easy, But This Fall Getaway Checked All of Our Boxes

There’s something so intimidating to me about planning a trip. Travel details aside (because I can practically book flights and a rental car in my sleep), it’s the accommodations, itineraries, Instagram-worthy outfits, and everything else in between that make me feel like I need a vacation from planning my vacation. So when I started to dream about what the perfect fall getaway would look like for this year, my excitement was short-lived before my overwhelm kicked in. And asking my husband for advice in this category is usually…not an option. Our preferences are vastly different, to say the least—he loves to get up and get after it, go on adventures, and have a jam-packed schedule, and I like to rise and relax, dine at a nice restaurant, and go to bed at a decent hour snuggled into sheets with a high thread count. So deciding what to do, where to go, and how to make the most of our precious PTO has always been a challenge—or at least it has been up until now.

Since we have conflicting preferences, we try our best every time we book a trip to find the best of both worlds, and most of the time, we find a happy medium, but it wasn’t until we visited AutoCamp Catskills that we were both happy with our stay as a whole. AutoCamp combines the unique benefits of being outdoors with all the comfort and amenities of a boutique hotel, so obviously, we were obsessed from the start. Where else could my husband do all the things his outdoorsy self dreams of in the same place where I drink local wine during happy hour? Couldn’t tell you.

If you and your partner have conflicting preferences like us, or you just want to head to a spot this fall that all your friends will enjoy, look no further than AutoCamp. Ahead, I am breaking down why AutoCamp is the perfect getaway, no matter your vacation style.

Convenient Destinations

AutoCamp Catskills is a quick drive from where we live in New York, which makes it an easy weekend getaway spot. With it being nestled near a few nearby towns, we were able to fully explore everything the surrounding area had to offer too. We spent a whole day exploring the towns of Hudson, Saugerties, and Woodstock (yes, the Woodstock!) which were just a short drive away from AutoCamp Catskills and offered a wide range of activities and dining options including lots of breweries, wineries, antique shopping, hiking trails, and more. While we prefer to stay somewhere that offers enough accommodations on-site where we don’t actually need to leave if we don’t want to, it was really nice to be able to easily see a whole new side of New York that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. With six locations and more on the way across the country, you’re bound to find an AutoCamp destination that is a quick drive or flight away from where you live, and since each of the properties is situated in a way to best enjoy that destination, you’ll be able to explore a town that is totally new to you, if you feel so inclined to leave your cozy campsite.

Thoughtfully-Designed Accommodations & Amenities

When I think about camping, I think about unzipping a tent, ducking my head to get in, and trying to find a place to put my weekend bag that isn’t going to end up covered in mud. I think about coolers full of melted ice, bags of stale chips, and lukewarm drinks. Even with rose-colored glasses on, I can’t find the appeal. Imagine my surprise when I saw AutoCamp’s luxury tents, high-end Airstreams, and gorgeous cabin suitesI never knew camping could be so clean, comfortable, and safe, and I definitely didn’t think it could be so spacious, with running water, and temperature control.

We booked a Classic Airstream, which was equipped with a private bedroom with a TV, blackout curtains, and high-thread-count linens; a kitchen area with a mini refrigerator, microwave, dishware, glassware, and everything you could need to cook a meal; a spa-inspired bathroom with a walk-in shower, luxury soap, and fluffy white towels, and finally, a sitting area with a convertible sofa bed, comfortable pillows, a table, and a built-in audio system with Bluetooth. Truly, no detail went unnoticed, even down to the full-length selfie mirror for my cozy fall OOTD shots and a book titled How to Stay Alive in the Woods, which I appreciated the most.

On-site Entertainment & Experiences

The thing I despise the most about traditional camping, like in the middle of the woods, is how boring it can get. I mean really, how long can you sit around a fire and listen to a Bluetooth speaker? My husband could do it for days on end, but I need something to keep me from dying of total boredom. AutoCamp knows that these two types of people exist, and as luck would have it, they often travel together, so they have made sure that they offer more than enough to do to keep the peace. For example, each site has a fire pit and lounge area for those long nights around the fire, as well as access to trails, bikes, and lawn games to get the most out of the great outdoors. They also offer live music and wellness classes like meditation and yoga, pottery making, candle making, pumpkin painting, and more to ensure that while enjoying the outdoors is relaxing, some people might need a little bit more to keep them occupied.

High-Quality Food, Beer, & Wine

Locally crafted food, beer, and wine are elite in our book, and I’m willing to bet it’s at the top of most people’s lists too, especially when visiting a new place. In the main clubhouse, AutoCamp offers an array of dining options, from locally crafted meals from their kitchen (the brisket sandwich and cornbread were favorites of ours!) to prepared options in their General Store (we loved their hummus and seasonal veggie crudites), and at the bar, you can find a variety of local craft beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. If you’re looking for a quick snack, I was SO impressed with the options they had for on-the-go. I saw some of my favorite brands available: LesserEvil popcorn, Jeni’s ice cream, Hope hummus, Brown Cow yogurt, and more. In the morning, they offer free coffee and granola (which was some of the best granola I’ve ever had), on top of many breakfast options you can order from the kitchen. To round it out, the surrounding restaurants had knockout food and drink options. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, to say the least. I will be missing that cornbread until we go back to visit again!
