There are a lot of things that I’m not so good at (I won’t bore you with the embarrassing details), but booking a getaway? Now that is one thing that I’m fully capable of doing. I mean, who doesn’t love to add a vacation to their calendar? But let’s be real: A few clicks and a swipe of your credit card for flights to get you to and from your destination is just the beginning of what it takes to book the perfect getaway. From picking the perfect place to stay to deciding what to do while you’re there, what the heck you’re going to wear, and how to make the very most of it can get overwhelming, to say the least—but it doesn’t have to.
I am happy to report that I have a few tricks up my sleeve that can help you plan your next getaway, and trust me, you’re not going to want to skip out on them. Ahead, I’m sharing the details with you just in time for you to experience a few dreamy fall days away that are as picture-perfect as you’ve always imagined.
1. A dreamy destination
The hardest part about planning a trip, especially in the fall, is figuring out where you want to go. There is so much to consider: when to go depending on the foliage, how cold it will be outside, what type of trip you want to go on, how far you’re willing to go, for how long, and what will be offered in or around the destination you choose. All of these things can make or break a good fall getaway. The stakes are high, but rest assured, I know just the place that makes for the perfect fall trip: AutoCamp.
AutoCamp combines the soothing benefits of being outdoors with all the comfort and amenities of a boutique hotel. So basically, you can bask in the crisp weather and beautiful leaves but have the option of sitting by the fire and making your way into their main clubhouse for some live music, food, or cocktails. After a long relaxing day of exploring all that AutoCamp and the surrounding areas have to offer, you can make your way back to your campsite, whether you choose to stay in one of their luxury tents, unique Airstreams, or spacious cabins where you’ll find high-quality towels and linens, luxury bathrooms, comfortable queen beds, fully-stocked kitchens, and more, depending on your accommodation of choice.
And because this fall getaway trip is all about relaxation, you don’t need to worry about forgetting anything on your packing list. AutoCamp has a well-stocked General Store with grab-and-go food items, curated snacks, grill kits, beverages, and other essential items.
Staying at AutoCamp makes planning the perfect fall getaway a breeze since they already have everything you could ever want and more on-site. You can even get 20% off your stay with code TEG20.

2. A spacious bag
I require two things out of a weekender bag: capacity and organization. As an over-packer and someone who has the tendency to make a little bit of a mess when I am living out of a bag for a few days, I need something that has a place for everything and enough room to pack all the extra items I’ll bring. To ease the stress of choosing what you’re going to pack and how you’re going to get it to your fall destination, choose one that is large enough and has tons of pockets. This way, you can bring all the fall outfits you’ve been dreaming about.
There is so much to love about the sheer size of this tote and the variety of interior and exterior pockets it offers, but it’s the full wraparound zip opening that convinced me to invest in it. Don't waste any of your precious getaway time digging through your bag—this one opens up completely like a suitcase, offering visibility into the main compartment like I’ve never seen before.

3. Lightweight layering pieces
Layering in the fall is a must, no matter where you live. If you’re heading on a trip later in the fall, you should think about packing a jacket and layers to go underneath it (think: lightweight long sleeves and a cardigan), but if you are traveling earlier in the fall or somewhere that is typically a little warmer, a vest is the perfect option to bring with you since it provides just enough warmth without overheating you. Put your jacket on for crisp morning walks, shed it during the afternoon sunshine, and throw it back on when dusk approaches. Trust me, you’ll be comfortable and look cute the entire day.
IMO, the best layering piece to wear in the fall is a vest, and this one is just so effortlessly chic—which is exactly the look I go for on a fall trip. It is also lightweight, water-resistant, and made from 100% recycled nylon.

4. A warm blanket
As a girl who gets cranky the second she gets chilly, I am completely reliant on a warm blanket to fully enjoy cold fall air, and I especially love one that is made of wool in the fall months. Have as many blankets as your heart desires by your side to stay extra cozy and warm—bonus points if they are washable because they are bound to get a tad bit dirty while you use them around the campfire.
This wool blanket is comfortable and warm, but what I love most about it is that it's washable. If you're like me and love the feeling of a campfire but hate the smell, you can wash it as soon as you get home. Plus, the fall checkered colors are so cozy and aesthetic.

5. A speaker for music
One thing about me? I’m picky as all get out about the *vibe* of music at any given time and whether or not it matches the setting and the mood of whatever I’m doing. If I don’t like it, I’m switching it—no matter who is on the aux. It’s not my most likable quality, but my friends can always count on me to have good tunes playing. Unfortunately, I won’t be on your trip to control the vibe of your tunes, but what I can do is convince you that you should pack a high-quality, compact speaker that produces great sound quality. Need some fall music recommendations? Listed to this fall playlist, cocktail jazz, or my personal favorites, Noah Kahan or The Lumineers.
This speaker is compact, but don't worry, it still packs a punch with up to 16 hours of battery life. Plus, it features a multiway strap to take it with you everywhere you go during your trip.

6. A camera to document the memories
I have learned over the last few years that if I do not print photos that I take on my phone, they will literally never see the light of day, which is sad for some of the truly great photos and memories on my phone. Don’t be like me during your getaway—bring a camera with you to remember every cozy moment, every s’more by the fire, every laugh with your loved ones, and as many happy hour drinks as you possibly can.
This compact instant Polaroid camera will easily fit into your weekender bag, and since it’s lightweight, you won’t mind carrying it around throughout the trip to capture every moment.
