There are few things more exciting in a book girl’s life than hearing that your favorite read is getting the silver screen treatment. You get to see your favorite characters brought to life, consume even more content set in your favorite worlds, and obnoxiously point out every difference between the book and the adaptation whenever it’s mentioned. And we all know it truly doesn’t get better than that. But with what feels like thousands of book-to-screen adaptations on the horizon, it can be hard to keep track of which ones you’ll actually get to enjoy soon and which you’ll forget about until the trailer drops in three years. So we rounded them all up in one place. Here are the most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations hitting screens soon.
1. Frankenstein
Jacob Elordi stans, rise! The latest adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, and Mia Goth, is already setting the internet ablaze. Even if you avoid classics like the plague, this adaptation will make you want to pick up the original Frankenstein ASAP. Full of eerie, gothic horror, this retelling is sure to be one you’ll stream well past spooky season.
2. Wicked: For Good
If you’ve somehow avoided the absolute phenomenon that is Wicked, let me remind you that part two drops in just a few weeks. But what you may not know is that Wicked isn’t only based on a Broadway musical, it’s also a novel by Gregory Maguire. If you’re already mourning the end of the Wicked era, you can always add the book to your TBR shelf to keep the magic alive.
3. Hamnet
The second I hear Paul Mescal is starring in something, I’m immediately buying tickets—but I’m especially excited for his upcoming film Hamnet. The novel by Maggie O’Farrell was a reader favorite when it was released in 2020, and there’s already Oscar buzz surrounding the adaptation. The historical fiction story delves into Shakespeare and his wife’s grief after the death of their son, Hamnet, and how it inspired his famous play Hamlet.
4. The Housemaid
The fact that we’re getting a Freida McFadden adaptation so soon is truly the only thing getting me through 2025. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Freida McFadden is one of the most popular thriller authors on the internet, and The Housemaid is among her most beloved books. The film adaptation, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, will take viewers into an eerie world where a nanny starts a new job and slowly realizes the family might not be as picture-perfect as they seem.
5. People We Meet on Vacation
2026 is the Emily Henry girlies’ year because we’re finally getting an adaptation from the queen of rom-coms herself. The highly anticipated film version of People We Meet on Vacation is set to hit Netflix on January 9th, and I already know I’ll be planted on the couch with a glass of wine the second it drops. If you somehow haven’t read the book, let this be your sign to pick up a copy and binge-read this adorable friends-to-lovers story before the adaptation premieres.
6. Bridgerton Season 4
We love Bridgerton here at The Everygirl, and I’m especially excited for the next season, which will adapt An Offer from a Gentleman by Julia Quinn. I’ve been patiently waiting for Benedict’s season, and in January, we’ll finally get to see his love story unfold on screen. The only thing left to do now is rewatch the first three seasons to prepare.
7. Wuthering Heights
Emerald Fennell’s upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation has already made headlines from the trailer alone, so it’s safe to say it should be on your watchlist. Whether you’re here for the Charli XCX-ification of the classic or you’re aghast at the period inaccuracy, I have a feeling you’ll want to see it so you can chime in with everyone else on your timeline come February. Personally, I’m so excited for this highly anticipated reimagining of the iconic novel.
8. Reminders of Him
It’s a good year to be a Colleen Hoover fan because, on the heels of Regretting You, Reminders of Him is hitting theaters next. In the film, we’ll follow Kenna, who is fighting for redemption after serving five years in prison and losing her daughter. As she tries to rebuild the relationships she lost, Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few people close to her daughter, is the only one willing to give her a second chance. As the two form a connection, Kenna must also learn to forgive herself. I already know I’ll need to bring tissues to the theater for this one.
9. Project Hail Mary
Sci-fi isn’t usually my go-to genre, but Project Hail Mary has somehow worked its way into my favorite books of all time. So, you could say I’m absolutely thrilled that Ryan Gosling is starring in the film adaptation—and it’ll be here before we know it. Without giving away too much, our main character wakes up in space as the only surviving crew member of his mission, with no idea why he’s there or what he’s supposed to accomplish.
10. The Love Hypothesis
The fact that we live in a world with no Ali Hazelwood movie adaptations is a truly frightening reality, but thankfully, that won’t be the case for much longer. While no release date has been announced for The Love Hypothesis, we do know from star Lili Reinhart’s TikTok that filming has wrapped, so hopefully the wait won’t be long. Until then, I’ll just be re-reading my favorite STEM romance couple of all time.
