7 Tips to Help You Keep Fitness Resolutions

7 Tips to Help You Keep Fitness Resolutions #theeverygirl
Congratulations! We're (basically) halfway through January!

How are those fitness resolutions coming along? If you're like us in this cold, your bathing suit is telling you to go to the gym, but your sweatpants are like, "nah girl, you're good!"

Why are our workout goals always the toughest? We knew there had to be a way to make our fitness resolutions attainable. So we paired up with our friend Liz of Sequins & Stripes for a great workout, and brainstormed our favorite ways to keep ourselves on track.

Two reasons workout goals die faster than the characters on Game of Thrones? Boring workouts, and zero accountability!

Pairing up with a buddy will help make any workout more fun, but most importantly–it'll hold you accountable. Team up with someone who shares a common goal. Before you start out, write down what you plan to achieve, and share with each other. Bonus points if you meet every week to discuss your progress!

The more people you tell, the more you'll feel like being a couch potato just isn't an option. (This comes in especially handy when the sweatpants and mac & cheese are calling your name.)

If you dread going to the gym every day to run on the same treadmill (and who doesn't?), ditch the boring workouts and look for an alternative, more upbeat version. Here, Liz and our Fashion Editor, Jess, check into a barre class at FlyWheel. We also love classes like Soul Cycle, Pure Barre and AIR, which are popping up all over the country.

Also look into a monthly membership with companies like ClassPass, which allow you to take several classes–barre, spin, pilates, yoga, and more–from dozens of different gyms and studios in your city.

Have you joined in on this month's #TEG30DayChallenge? We're aiming to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day! Plenty of fluids won't just make you feel better, it'll renew your skin, help control your calories, and rejuvinate those muscles you've been working so hard. Don't be fooled, it's not as easy as it sounds! Adding fresh fruits like citrus, berries, kiwi, and our favorite–cucumber–will help you knock back those extra glasses.

One of the best ways to accomplish your goals is to write them down! Luckily, there are apps out there that make staying on top of them that much easier! Whether you're aiming to eat better, run more miles, or just be more active in general, you can track your progress with apps like Habit ListHuman, and Breeze

Speaking of tracking goals, the best goals you can make for yourself are SMART ones. They're not just for year-end meetings with your boss, they work for fitness too.

Whatever you aim to achieve this year, make sure it's Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Try making smaller goals that ladder up to larger ones, which makes them less daunting and more attainable.

You don't run a marathon all at once, you run it a mile at a time! The same goes for goal setting. The biggest perk? You get to celebrate more often, too!

Never under estimate the power of a little retail therapy to get you motivated. Remember that time you bought that knockout party dress with no occasion in mind, yet you were determined to find somewhere to wear it? Purchasing new workout gear does the same thing.

For those of us who are motivated by a new outfit (no judgement, we are too!) some new wardrobe staples–like Old Navy's half-zip pullovers and compression capris–can go a long way to get your you-know-what in gear, without breaking your bank account.

Before you even head to the gym, build in a reward to wrap up your sweat session. Whether that's grabbing a latte with your sister, or a green juice with your workout buddy. When you have an immediate reward to look forward to, it's easy to crank out another set of push-ups!
