Cold Weather Essentials: The Vest & Turtleneck
Step up your layering game with these classic staples
Quick—what do you think of when you hear "turtleneck" and "puffy vest"?
Do you look forward to pulling on these amazing cool weather staples when the seasons change or do you associate them with descriptions such as "frumpy" and "oh, they make me feel like my mother"?
Regardless of which side you're on (and we hope you're not the latter!), grab yourself a latte and sit tight, because we've teamed up with Kelly Larkin of Kelly In the City to show you some incredibly chic ways to style these two classics. Trust us, you'll be reaching for these pieces again and again over the next six months. (You're welcome!)
THE PUFFY VEST
"The puffer vest is a fall and winter staple for me—I'm always cold!" Kelly says. For this look, she started with a toasty warm vest (like this one from Old Navy). "I love that this vest works for both indoors and outdoors," Kelly mentions. "Right now, I'm all about mixing patterns to achieve an original look, so I paired my puffer vest with stripes, tartan, and leopard." (Our favorite neutral!)
Kelly sports a pair of skinny jeans on the bottom to balance out the volume of the vest on the top, and tops her look with a statement necklace for a glitzy touch.
THE CLASSIC TURTLENECK
There's something about a turtleneck that can feel distinctly European: cozy casual, yet still glamorous. This one from Old Navy is no exception. It's warm, but not too bulky. Known for pairing perfectly with jeans, we also love our turtlenecks with skirts or even over a dress!
We give Kelly an A+ for her look head to toe neutrals: starting with her grey sweater, cream skirt and bag, adding silver heels and a sparkly crystal necklace to dress up the more casual elements of her outfit.
