Gold Leaf Pumpkin DIY
Fall decor sometimes has a way of always looking the same, right? There's usually a lot of burlap, brown, and plaid involved. So with our help, try creating a twist on traditional fall décor with these gold leaf pumpkins. They are easy to make and would make great place settings for an autumn party or Thanksgiving dinner. Let us know how it goes!
- Gold Leaf Kit: Here is a great starter kit that has everything you will need.
- Sponge brush
- Bristle brush
Step 1: First, take a damp washcloth and clean and dry pumpkins. Let them fully dry before applying the adhesive or it will not stick. While you're waiting for your pumpkins to dry, create a workspace by laying down newspaper. Gold leaf gets a bit messy and can be a pain to clean off counters!
Step 2: Apply the adhesive to your pumpkins by using a sponge brush. Let them dry for 1-2 minutes. The glue used for gold leaf is very watery so if you let it dry for a few minutes it gets a bit tacky, which helps the foil stick.
Step 3: Apply the gold foil sheets to your pumpkins. Use your bare hands as rubber gloves get tricky and can easily stick to the glue. Try to apply the entire sheet at once because if you apply in small pieces the gold leaf tends to crumple.
Step 4: Once you are happy with your gold application, use a bristle brush to gently apply sealer. Some of the gold leaf will come off at this point but don't panic! That's part of the charm and "look" of gold leaf. While your sealer is drying the gold will dull in color but this comes back once everything is dry.
Tada! You now have cute gold pumpkins to add a dash of fall to your home!
