10 Skincare Resolutions for 2016

With all of our efforts to be healthy for the new year, healthy skin is just as important. But rather than make one big commitment, there are a handful of smaller changes we can make throughout the year to maintain a healthy complexion. Just keep these 10 skincare resolutions in mind:

1. Change your pillowcases twice a week.

You’ve heard it before, but this is the year to really take that advice seriously. The amount of bacteria that can build up on your pillow cases is a recipe for breakouts, so commit to refreshing your pillowcases twice a week in 2016.

2. Wash your makeup brushes once a week.

Just as pillowcases can harvest bacteria, makeup brushes are a common source as well. Try making it a habit of cleaning your makeup brushes on a weekly basis this year and I promise you’ll see the difference in not only your complexion, but in the application of your makeup as well.

3. Never skip a wash before bed.

It can be tempting after a long day or a crazy night out to skip the soap and haed straight to bed. So why not resolve to a nightly cleanse this year, no matter what the circumstances. We suggest keeping face wipes around for those nights where you just need a quick fix.

4. Drink more water.

This may be on your list of resolutions this year already, but drinking more water can make a huge impact on the health of your skin. Try carrying your own water bottle around so there’s no excuse not to hydrate.

5. Keep a consistent skincare routine.

With so many skincare products on the market, it can be tempting to forgo your routine in order to try something new. But dermatologists recommend maintaining a consistent skincare routine for at least three months before making any changes to truly see results.

6. Avoid products with harsh chemicals.

Harsh chemicals and fillers, typically found in drugstore cleansers, can strip the skin of its natural oils. Luckily, we’re seeing more and more all-natural skincare lines becoming available, as well as many DIY face masks using simple ingredients like honey and lemon. Not sure which products exactly to avoid? This list of 5 Ingredients You Don’t Want Near Your Face should help!

7. Take your vitamins.

Just as all-natural products offer healthy benefits to your skin, so do daily vitamins. Snag a bottle of gummy vitamins (yum!) and include them in your morning ritual. Your skin (and your body) will thank you!

8. Don’t pick at your blemishes.

We know it’s tempting, but we also know how damaging it can be to pick at your blemishes. Resist the urge this year and treat your acne right by cleansing the area and applying acne-fighting product daily. You’ll be surprised how much quicker your skin will clear up!

9. Let each product sink in before applying the next.

When you’re in a hurry, you may be layering on the products too quickly. It’s important to let your serum absorb into the skin, for example, before applying your moisturizer. So be sure to give yourself those extra 30 seconds to make sure each product does its job.

10. Don’t skip the moisturizer.

Even if your skin doesn’t feel dry, applying moisturizer after you cleanse is a must. Think of it like conditioning your hair. When you shampoo your hair, it feels clean but needs conditioner to make it soft and managable for the day; just as your skin needs moisturizer to balance out your cleanser.

I am not taking any kind of care for my skin. After reading this article I am planning to have proper skincare lifestyle. Thanks for sharing. http://www.imageskincare.com/

  • I’m sorry, but just because you are afraid of “chemicals”, it doesn’t mean that they’re all bad for you; and only because something is natural (or you can eat it), you shouldn’t instantly put it on your skin. Lemon and baking soda, for example, which are popular ingredients in DIY face products, are extremly harsh for your skin, due to being way too acidic or alkaline. They are much worse than the scary sounding chemicals you mentioned. Maybe check your facts, before jumping on the “skincare tips that are everywhere right now, so I’m really original by sharing them, thank me later” bandwagon.
