3 Celebrity Looks to Wear This Spring, No Matter Your Size
As the plus size blogger behind The 12ish Style, a fashion blog for size 12ish-18ish women, I’m always on the lookout for what makes an outfit great. One of my favorite places to turn for inspo is celebrities. Think about it… celebs have access to all the top stylists and brands. I’m talking about the people who are setting the trends, not following them, so let’s let them do the heavy lifting and we can take notes.
Yes, most celebs are itty bitty, but here’s the secret: it’s easier than you think to steal their style and make it work for your own body, whatever your size or shape. I’ve done it before and am back today with three new looks perfect for winding down winter.
1. Steal Kendall Jenner's trendy look.
First up, Ms. Kendall Jenner. She’s a repeat target for me because her off-duty style is so killer. I love this look because it’s casual and sporty yet polished. And so easy to pull off!
It starts with two things you probably already own: leather-look leggings and a grey t-shirt. Add a metallic puffer, like this one from Lands End, but lose the hood because spring is coming, people! And don’t forget the best thing about this look: the scarf. I love a silk scarf, especially tied around the neck with tails out, and am so excited to see this trend in the upcoming months. If you don’t already own one, just about every retailer from Ann Taylor to The Real Real has you covered. Add wire frame sunnies like these Octagonal Ray-Bans, a crossbody bag, and pop that jacket off your shoulder (everyone’s doing it...) and voila! So chic, comfy, and easy.
2. Steal Emma Roberts' chic day-off look.
Next, let’s take on Emma Roberts’ casual outfit. Yep, another off-duty look because I think they can be the hardest to put together. You want something effortless and easy (and fast!) but also fresh and modern. Not easy!
What I love about Emma’s look is she’s taken a formula we’re all familiar with (not to mention a little bored with) — booties, skinny jeans, and a sweater — and given it an update with a pair of over-the-knee boots. You can do a heel like Emma but for wearability, I love a flat like Stuart Weitzman’s Lowland boot (available up to a size 12). For ladylike vibes and a little polish, add a mini bag like this one by Kate Spade. Pull on your coziest sweater (mine is by Kate Spade and available XXS - XXL) and if weather permits, skip the jacket but never the hot bev.
3. Steal Gigi Hadid's bold, rose-colored look.
Finally, let’s say you’re going out and want to do a real, bonafide LEWK. For that, who better than Gigi Hadid for a lesson in how to mix trends. At first glance, her outfit looks like something a mere mortal could never pull off. But broken down, it’s actually a collection of simple pieces put together in an cool, new way.
Pink is very much the color of the season, and I love that Gigi has turned up the volume with a cotton candy shade instead of the standard blush. The look works because while the pink pops, the rest of her outfit is monochromatic. All you need is a great camel coat (again, shoulder pop optional) and a neutral on the bottom. Because Gigi is playing with volume I decided to do the same and love the impact of this Eloquii maxi skirt (available in sizes 14 - 28). No white mesh booties? No problem, a tan heel will work fine. Finish it off with a white-tone bag like this one by Kate Spade and literal rose colored glasses to see the world like Gigi does.
